Short version: Treefy can optionally read your daily step count via Google Health Connect (Android) or Apple Health (iOS) only if you grant permission. These Health data are read-only, processed on-device to show progress and award in-game bonuses, and are not uploaded to our servers.
1. Who we are
Treefy (“we”, “us”, “our”) is an eco-gaming project operated by Bertuccia Studios. We enable users to plant real trees by playing our mobile game and, optionally, viewing ads.
2. Scope
This policy applies to the Treefy Android & iOS apps, treefy.net, and any related services (collectively, the “Service”). By installing or using the Service, you consent to the practices described here.
3. Data we collect
Account data – phone number (for SMS login).
Profile data – display name and profile photo (optional).
Contacts (optional) – hashed phone numbers, only if you grant Contacts permission to find friends and referrals.
Device & log information – IP address, OS, device model, crash logs, and diagnostic events collected by Firebase Analytics/Crashlytics and Google Play Services.
Advertising identifiers – provided by Google Mobile Ads SDK to deliver optional rewarded ads and measure reward completion.
Health and activity data (optional) – if you connect Google Health Connect (Android) or Apple Health (iOS), Treefy can read your daily step count to unlock in-game rewards and track eco-challenges.
We perform a read-only access to steps; we do not write or modify Health data.
Health data are processed on-device and are not transmitted to Treefy servers.
You can revoke Health permissions at any time from system settings (Health Connect / Apple Health).
4. Why we collect data
To create and maintain your account and core app functionality.
To sync gameplay data across devices and leaderboards.
To show optional rewarded ads (Google AdMob), measure completion, and credit in-game rewards.
To prevent fraud & abuse and secure the Service (e.g., App Check, security rules).
To improve the app via analytics and crash reports.
With your consent, to find friends (Contacts) and award referral bonuses.
With your explicit Health consent, to calculate in-game rewards and progress based on your daily step count (read-only, on-device).
5. Legal bases
Where applicable (e.g., GDPR), we process data based on: contract necessity (provide and operate the Service), legitimate interests (fraud prevention, service analytics), and consent (Contacts access, Health data, personalized ads/marketing where applicable). You may withdraw consent at any time in system or in-app settings.
6. Third-party providers
We rely on the following processors; each provider maintains its own privacy terms:
Google AdMob / Google Mobile Ads SDK – privacy & ads
Google Health Connect (Android) – enables secure, user-controlled access to your step count. Treefy uses it for read-only access. Learn more: Health Connect Privacy & Security.
Apple Health (iOS) – optional read-only access to step count, controlled by the system’s Health permissions.
7. Data sharing & transfers
We do not sell personal data. We may share data with the providers above or if required by law. Where data are transferred outside your region, we rely on appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses).
8. Retention
Account and gameplay data are retained for as long as your account is active.
Guest data may be retained until you uninstall the app or for up to 12 months of inactivity.
Health data (steps): Treefy does not store Health data on its servers. Step counts are processed on-device and refreshed from Health Connect/Apple Health when you open or use relevant features.
9. Your rights
Depending on your region, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your data, object to certain processing, and withdraw consent.
Revoke Health access: Android → Health Connect settings; iOS → Apple Health permissions.
Manage Contacts access in your device’s system settings.
Manage ads preferences in app or system ad settings.
To exercise rights or make a request, open “Settings → Privacy” in-app or email treefyapp@gmail.com. We aim to respond within 30 days.
10. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13. If we learn that we unintentionally collected personal data from a child, we will delete it promptly.
11. Security
Data in transit are protected via HTTPS; data at rest in Firebase are encrypted and protected by role-based security rules. We periodically review our safeguards to prevent unauthorized access, misuse, or disclosure.
12. Health Connect & Apple Health specifics
Data types: daily step count only.
Purpose: show progress, run eco-challenges, and award in-game bonuses.
Access mode: read-only; Treefy never writes or modifies Health records.
Storage: not uploaded to Treefy servers; processed on-device.
Control: you can grant/deny and revoke access at any time in system settings.
Sharing: we do not share Health data with third parties for advertising or marketing.
13. Permissions we may request
Activity recognition / Physical activity (Android) – to enable step counting features when you connect Health.
Health Connect / Apple Health – optional, for read-only access to step count.
Contacts – optional, to find friends and referrals (stored as secure hashes).
Notifications – optional, to send daily reminders and progress updates.
14. In-app disclosures
We present clear, contextual prompts when requesting Contacts and Health permissions. You can continue using Treefy without connecting Health or Contacts; some features may be limited.
15. Changes
We may update this policy to reflect changes in law or our Service. We will notify you in-app or on treefy.net before material changes take effect.
